If this is the first time you’ve needed to read about eating disorders, remember they are very serious but treatable mental illnesses, that they are not a 'choice' and full recovery is possible. However, they have a much higher chance of recovery if they can get help quickly.
If you are concerned a loved one may have an eating disorder:
Make an appointment GP straight away for an assessment for a referral to specialist services.
Complete the Feed Your Instinct questionnaire which includes a GP report you can send to them (button below).
If your GP lacks concern or knowledge about eating disorders, do not delay following up with a second opinion with one who is more knowledgeable.
If you would like to talk to us about what to say to the GP please get in touch for help.
