Below is a list of free and private Eating Disorder Therapies. We endeavour to keep this list accurate and up-to-date. If you know of any services that could be included on this page, please email us.
Free options
These options are short-term solutions but may help you in the meantime.
Gumboot Friday will cover two free counselling sessions for anyone 25 and under. From the directory, choose up to three qualified people you'd be willing to talk to, then send them a message. When they respond, choose the one you prefer and arrange a session—Gumboot Friday will take care of the payment.
Check if you or your parents work for a business that offers counselling as part of its employee wellbeing programme, such as EAP or OCP. Some of the counsellors have experience with Eating Disorders. Depending on the plan, you may get two or three appointments per person listed on the plan.
New Zealand Private Providers.
The Eat Clinic -ED Specialist Registered Dietitian Victoria Schonwald. As a fully trained Registered Dietitian, Victoria has undergone specialist training in ED both in Australia and internationally and has undertaken additional training in the therapeutic model RO-DBT.
Recovered Living NZ has recently opened a small private residential facility in Christchurch.
Recovery Coaches
Recovery Coaches are becoming recognised as valuable support, which is usually provided by Lived Experience therapists. Some therapists might be available for support outside of office hours via text or virtual messaging when you are struggling. Many therapists offer podcasts and inspiration referencing their own journeys.
Private ED Outpatient Clinics
There are two private clinics for Outpatients - both are Auckland-based though also offer virtual support and treatment options.
